CardBoy Series

Toy Concept / Product Design

‘CardBoy’ was created as an answer to the ‘what do you do with the box’ dilemma. Packaging is generally wasted, ripped apart and thrown away. But the boxes are an important part of the product. They are the thing you first see and what attracts you to the product in the first place. So why not utilise the packaging?

‘CardBoy’ is a mini blind boxes figure, that when opened, the box transforms into the head of the figure. There were eight in the original series, all unique designs with attachments. The second series, ‘CardBoy Sneakers’ used classic sneaker packaging as the inspiration, also eight in the series. The third series, CardBoy Cartridges took inspirations from printer cartridges, four in the collection, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.

This ground-breaking creative art toy concept was a huge success around the world. Selling in Colette/Paris, Maharishi/London, Kid Robot/New York and Hunting Lodge/Oslo, to name a few. In 2008 the ‘CardBoy Cartridges’ series was selected by MoMA as part of their Colour Chart exhibition and sold in their stores in New York and Tokyo.
